Foundation Chair, Dr. Tom Parker, awarded a new Paul Harris Fellow (PHF), Debra Pope, of the Sunset Satellite Club at their recent Happy Hour. Debra is a Charter member of Sunset Satellite, Membership Chair and active recruiter. She was pinned by her daughter, Lenda Fidelman, Sunset Satellite Chair-Elect, shown here on the left. Lenda is also a PHF. That makes seven Sunset club members who are PHF. We anticipate awarding the eighth at an upcoming meeting. That is commendable for a club of 20 members.

On 23 February 1905, Paul Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram Shorey gathered at Loehr’s office in downtown Chicago for what would become known as the first Rotary club meeting and the beginning of an extraordinarily successful service organization. Rotarians around the world are encouraged to commemorate the late founder of Rotary by contributing to The Rotary Foundation which supports service efforts dear to Harris’ heart.

Example; as of 2019, Rotary’s contributions from The Rotary Foundation to the global polio eradication effort, including matching funds from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, exceeded $2 billion. There are five other areas of focus to which Rotary applies its worldwide service impact. Thank you, Debra Pope, for adding your resources to all these efforts.
