When Benita Sharpe joined McKinney Sunset Rotary Club in October 2018, little did she know that she would become the Chair-elect for the 2019-20 year and the club’s presiding officer as Chair in 2020-21. However, with Benita’s leadership skills, dynamic personality and work experience as a small business owner and a representative with State Farm Insurance, she was a natural for the position. Benita is the owner of B Sharpe Image Consultants, where she sells Mary Kay beauty products and other resources for women to feel good about themselves. Benita is especially good at “selling” empowerment and helping people reach their full potential.Benita’s goals for the McKinney Sunset Rotary Club include:
- Create opportunities to strengthen leadership.
- Put service ideas into action.
- Improve the lives of those in need.
- Recruit new members and develop current members.
Benita is a graduate of Truman State University and she is married to Artise Sharpe. The couple has one daughter, Samara Sharpe, who is a college student. Benita is also a Minister in Training at Potter's House North Dallas, and she is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
McKinney Sunset Rotary Club is a satellite of the McKinney Sunrise Rotary Club. The club was organized in June 2014 with the mission to provide an alternative to the two traditional Rotary Clubs in McKinney. The attendance requirements, membership dues, and meeting times are organized with the busy professionals in mind who are balancing work and families. The club leaders like to say “We are not your Father’s Rotary Club!” A strength of the club is the diversity of members which includes an age range from 24 to 81, and a variety of occupations that include insurance representatives, teachers, a real estate agent, construction and building trades managers, school support staff, leadership consultants, a performing arts director, a professional counselor, a beauty salon owner, a pet service owner, and a travel consultant.
The McKinney Sunset Rotary Club meets in the Conference Room at the Yeager Office Suites Building, 6401 Eldorado Parkway on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM to hear a program speaker. The third Thursday is the club “happy hour” which is announced on MeetUp and on the McKinney Sunset Rotary Facebook Page.
