Rotary International President-elect Jennifer Jones (who is also our first female president) has announced the 2022-23 theme Imagine Rotary.
“Imagine, a world that deserves our best, where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.”
The theme is a special one: the theme graphic was designed by an Australian Indigenous artist to link with the Melbourne Convention in 2023. Some of the symbolism includes:
✨Circle connections to one another
✨Dots around it - our people
✨There are 7 Dots for Rotary's 7 areas of focus
✨Circle + dots around it - a navigation star, our guiding light
✨Green solid line - digging stick (used when doing hard work); for us it's People of Action, represents the tools for getting things done
✨The colours purple, green & white - celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion
✨Freedom to express ourselves differently but still with a special connection
✨Purple is also the colour of Rotary's Polio campaign
✨Green represents the Environment
✨White stands for peace; it also represents Empowerment and Newness and also the colours were utilised for the women's movement, highlighting the opportunity to grow our female membership.

Happy July 4th!

We celebrate heroes like George Washington who is our nation’s first president. The Washington, D.C. School was created, after his death, through an Act of Congress that fulfilled his vision to have an institution in the capital that educated future leaders. Thomas Paine is another individual to honor this 4th of July. Thomas is most recognized for his work, “Common Sense.” Institutions commemorate the anniversary of Paine’s death out of respect.

Independence Day, better known today as the 4th of July, is a majestic holiday in the United States of America and is often a favorite of young people who especially enjoy the colorful and noisy traditional fireworks. The fireworks, however, are a symbol of the meaning behind the 4th of July celebration of independence. The meaning behind the 4th of July Independence Day holiday came about as the result of the courageous efforts and strong determination of our American forefathers not very long ago.

Our American forefathers successfully worked through strife, fears, and the bullies of their time to prevail in establishing this great country. We, as recipients and inheritors of their magnificent efforts, must hold our heads up high as we express our thanks and jubilation on the 4th of July. Independence Day holiday celebrations that we live in such a great country, and we should be encouraged to work together, hand in hand, to resolve our problems and differences in order to maintain the integrity and values that the great and famous document, the Declaration of Independence was founded upon.

And, To all the currently active or retired military personnel THANK YOU for being instrumental in ensuring the USA continues to enjoy the freedoms our forefathers saw fit to fight for.

Why do you think the first Americans liked ants?
– Because they lived in colonies.
