Can Birds Predict The Weather?

Did you know that bird behavior can help to predict the weather?

Our bird-watching member, Tracy Pounders, says..."look up one of these days...watch the birds in flight."

He says...as the adages go...
  • Hawks flying high means a clear sky
  • When they fly low, prepare for a blow
  • Geese fly higher in fair weather than in foul
  • When seagulls fly inland, expect a storm
  • When fowls roost in the daytime, expect rain
  • Petrels gathering under the stern of a ship indicates bad weather.
Tracy says..."Closely observe nature and your feathered friends - and you might be surprised by what you learn".

September Rotary Theme
is Basic Education & Literacy month. The Governor encourages clubs to emphasize this in three ways.

First - Educate your club!  Facilitate your club members creating an account on MyRotary.org. It is easy to do and only takes a few minutes. Have a ‘Create a My Rotary Account Sign-up’ at a social event or as a part of a club meeting. Bring some notebook computers or tablets and sign people up. It only takes about 5 minutes. This will allow them access to the incredible number of resources that are on MyRotar.org. Amongst the resources are free Rotary graphics, Public Image resources, grant training, free videos to show your club, on-line Rotary Magazines, RI governing documents and much more.  If you have not been there, you are missing out on many things that will help you and your club. www.Myrotary.org.
