Can Animals Predict The Weather?
Did you know that you can tell the Temperature by counting the Chirps of a Cricket?
Back in 1897, a scientist named Amos Folbear published an article titled "The Cricket as a Thermometer" that noted the correlation between the ambient temperature and the rate at which crickets chirp. Big deal!
Amos's formula expressed the following:
To convert cricket chirps to degrees Fahrenheit, just count the number of chirps in 14 seconds, then add 40 to get the temperature. Example - 30 chirps (in 14 seconds) + 40 = 70* F.
is Basic Education & Literacy month. The Governor encourages clubs to emphasize this in three ways.
First - Educate your club! Facilitate your club members creating an account on MyRotary.org. It is easy to do and only takes a few minutes. Have a ‘Create a My Rotary Account Sign-up’ at a social event or as a part of a club meeting. Bring some notebook computers or tablets and sign people up. It only takes about 5 minutes. This will allow them access to the incredible number of resources that are on MyRotar.org. Amongst the resources are free Rotary graphics, Public Image resources, grant training, free videos to show your club, on-line Rotary Magazines, RI governing documents and much more. If you have not been there, you are missing out on many things that will help you and your club. www.Myrotary.org.

Meet Director, Bill Dendy, 5810 District Director of the Foundation.
Bill Dendy LOVES Rotary. He joined Rotary in 2000 with the Rotary Club of Dallas. Bill served as District Governor from 2016-17. During that time, North Texas Rotary led our Rotary zone in membership growth. Additionally, the North Texas District was recognized as the top district for public image in the paired zones. Furthermore, our District’s Rotary Foundation giving grew with overall Foundation contributions increasing by over a million dollars. Bill attributes these successes to a strong support team that was necessary as he was also a full-time entrepreneur and active father for his two minor children during his governor year.
WELCOME, Bill Dendy!
