Could the Turkey Have Been the National Bird?

Ben Franklin thought the turkey would be a better national symbol than the bald eagle.
Continued from last week...
For in truth, the turkey is in comparison a much more respectable bird, and withal a true original native of America. Eagles have been found in all countries, but the turkey was peculiar to ours...Ben Franklin.

The average person in the United States will eat 15 pounds of turkey this year.

Holiday Club Meeting Schedule
  • The Club will be dark on Wednesday, November 23 rd.
  • Saturday, December 3rd is the Club's annual Christmas party at the Heard Museum starting at 5:30 PM.
  • The club will be dark on Wednesday, December 21st. 
  • Wednesday, December 28th is Club Assembly Day and also Cowboy Hat Day. Every club member is to wear a Cowboy hat for the meeting.

  1. The next Board meeting is on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022, beginning at 6:01 PM.  If you have not sent in your report to Chuck, please do so by Monday, 10-17-2022.
  2. NEW WEBSITE  Everyone should go check out the new website.  https://mckinneysunriserotary.org

  3. ARE YOU CURRENT ON YOUR DUES?  Did you know that you can pay your dues online?  Well, now you can.  Just follow these easy instructions.  

    Go to “mckinneysunriserotary.org”

    Log on as a member – if you don’t have a login, create one.

    Once on as a member, look to the right side of the home page and see “ Members Only”. Click here.

    Select 'Pay Club Dues' for  Sunrise  – you can also select the optional RI Foundation payment of $37.50.

    Follow your nose and the instructions. It will take you to either PayPal or Credit Card payment.

    If you need to pay more (or less) than the set amounts, go to “Other Payment” and enter the details when you “Continue”

    Hope this helps, if you need to, you can always send a check to Rotary Club of McKinney Sunrise at P.O. Box 2244, McKinney, TX 75070.

  4. We are looking for suggestions for speakers, please let Bobbi or Staci know if you have some ideas.

  5. We currently have 3,250 flags going out on the flag holidays with our flag program IN 2022.
