December is Disease Prevention & Treatment Month
During the month of December, we recognize all that Rotary International and Rotarians are doing to combat diseases through effective treatment and prevention. It was certainly no small task that RI decided to take on in 1985 when we pledged to eradicate polio. Only one infectious disease has ever been eradicated before: smallpox in 1979. That was due to diligent vaccination and surveillance efforts; the same efforts that have bought mankind ever so close to the elimination of another devastating disease. An amazing partnership between RI, the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and regional governments is working to make this possible.
During Governor Max Duploant's visit to our club, Sunrise donated $500/$20 per club member to the eradicate polio fund.

With tips and tools, knowledgeable advice, and real-applied insights from the actual project implementation, this healthy resource addresses the entire spectrum of patriotic fundraising for non-profits.
The annual Sunrise Rotary Christmas party was held at Sherry and Steve Mitas’s resident. Club members and guests had fun! The MC for the evening was Past-President Jeff Caserotti, also known as a trapeze performer, who did an outstanding rendition of P.T. Barnum.
Sherry and Steve outdid themselves by hosting and providing the assorted entrees and side dishes. They were excellent! A big ‘thank you’ from your Rotary club.
A cookie exchange took place with a variety of cookie selections from members. The exchanges were challenging to say the least.
Following the ‘cookie exchange,’ the annual fearful ‘White Elephant’ exchange took place. Tom Parker came away from the Rotary Christmas party as the biggest ‘White Elephant’ gift exchange winner! Two Baylor T-shirts and tickets to some Baylor baseball and basketball games! What happened to the volleyball tickets?
A gracious ‘thank you’ to Bobbi Wright and her team that coordinated with the Mitas and Kocsis families in making our annual Christmas party a big success! Service Above Self.
