Poen, President and Executive Director for The Community Garden of Collin County, Inc., graduated from East Texas State University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree.  After graduation she and her husband moved to Iowa where she worked as an art teacher for grades K - 12 in until moving back to Texas (Thank Heavens!) to raise their family.  She open and ran her own advertising and design firm, until joining with her husband in their family business where she served for twenty years as the CFO. Upon retiring, she became a Certified Mediator in civil, domestic relations and religious mediation with advanced graduate studies in dispute resolution from Southern Methodist University. Mrs. Poen is an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, in McKinney and has overseen numerous projects and activities.  She is a graduate of the four year EfM (Education for Ministry) Program of The University of the South (Sewanee) School of Theology. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Council for Literacy, drug prevention in schools, and Refuge City to fight human trafficking.  In 2015 she and a group of friends launched the Community Garden Kitchen project in order to address the growing problem of food insecurity in Collin County.  When open, the kitchen will prepare and serve fresh healthy meals to anyone in need in our community.  A native Texan, Mrs. Poen lives in Fairview, is married and has one son and one grandson.  She and her husband have a small farm by the Red River where they grow pecans and have a wildlife management program.
