Could the Turkey Have Been the National Bird?
by
Ed Miles

Ben Franklin thought the turkey would be a better national symbol than the bald eagle. According to the Franklin Institute, he wrote in a letter to his daughter:
"For my own part, I wish the bald eagle had not been chosen as the representative of our country; he is a bird of bad moral charter; he does not get his living honestly...like those among men who live by sharping and robbing...he is generally poor, and often very lousy. Besides, he is a rank coward; the little king-bird, not bigger than a sparrow, attacks him boldly and drives him out of the district"...to be continued next week...
Rob Temple attended The University of California, Davis awarded Robb a Bachelor of Science degree. He was team captain of the regional qualifying Aggies baseball team.  He served as a member of the Captain's Council and was named to the All-Far West Conference team his senior year. The following year he was named as head coach of the Aggie JV Baseball program. Robb attended high school at the Army Navy Academy in Carlsbad, CA, was the Battalion Commander his senior year, and was selected to the first class of the Army and Navy Academy Sports Hall of Fame.
Robb and his wife Lisa, a local artist, have lived in McKinney, Texas for over 30 years. In addition to being active in their church and spending time with their three wonderful adult children and families, Robb and Lisa are passionate about their faith-based non-profit organization, Good Father Ministries, which serves underprivileged areas in the Dominican Republic.
Veterans Day is our fifth flag holiday of the flag season. Your help at the Shed on Tuesday, November 15th from 5 to 8 PM.
would be a great way to continue the flag season.
