Each year McKinney Sunrise Rotary Club is proud to honor a number of recent high school graduates with a scholarship award toward furthering their education. Here are the 2020 graduates being awarded this year...
AMY BILYEU: McKinney High School. College: Texas A&M College Station, to study Business, to assist companies create sustainable, non-polluting packaging. Tennis Team Senior Team Captain. Sunrise Rotary Flag Program volunteer. Selected for Collin College Dual Credit program. Works at Edith’s French Bistro. 13 years in MISD. Quote: “Perfect Choice as team captain, due to her leadership skills” Per Coach. Proud parents are Bill and Jenna Bilyeu.

TANNER CASTILLA: McKinney Boyd High School. College: Texas A&M Corpus Christi, to study Biology to develop and lead bio-tourism that is dedicated to the health and rehabilitation of marine life. Marching Band, Honors Band, Trumpet Section Leader, solo and ensemble medalist. Volunteered on a Church Mission Trip, Vacation Bible School, and Region Band Auditions. Certified SCUBA diver. TRAVIS CORRIVEAU: McKinney North High School. College: S.M.U. Or U.T.D., to study Biochemistry to became a pediatric neurologist doctor. North Interact President, Art Club, Academic UIL in calculator, science, math, number sense, and computer science, Gifted and Talented program, NHS, American Math Competition, State Fair of Texas Arts Award. Volunteered as a Binky Patrol Blanketeer, Camp Invention, Written Reflections with the Elderly, Vacation Bible School, Salvation Army. RACHEL HEMPHILL: Pleasant Grove High School (Texarkana, TX.). College: Baylor University to study biology and child development to become a pediatric occupational therapist. Showstopper Drill Team First Lieutenant, Texarkana Community Ballet Performer (multiple programs), Art Club, Yearbook Editor-in-Chief, Student Council Vice-President and Keyettes. Academic Awards: AP Spanish V Award, and NHS. Other Awards: Miss High Kick Runner-up National Award, Scholastic Art and Writing Silver Key National Award 2019 & 2020, Celebrate Art Published Artist-National Award, State Articulate Award of Excellence, Quill and Scroll National Award. Volunteered at Texarkana Community Ballet, First Baptist Church, Running WJ, Casa for Children, Kenwood Retreat, Susan Komen Race for the Cure, Children’s Art Workshop, and Drill Team Little Girls Clinic. ALISON JUSTINE KOCSIS: Melissa High School. College: Oklahoma University to study Sociology / Criminology in order to become a Criminal Justice Lawyer. Cross Country Track State Qualifier 4 years in a row. Cross Country and Field and Distance MVP, 3 times each. Member of Interact Club, Perspective Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Volunteers on the Worship Team at church, in the youth group and Sunday church. Did Flag Duty with the Interact Club and worked with the Cheer Team. Quote: “Runs, on and on and on...” per Dad. NATHAN MARSHALL: Home School Association. College: Baylor U., or Abilene Christian U. Or Texas A&M College Station, to study Political Science and Finance in order to become a lawyer. National Honor Society President, MArCH Student Council President, Club 19:14 Speech and Debate. Volunteered for Sunrise Rotary Flag distribution for 10+ years, Allen Teen Court, Church Summer Bible Club, Church Bridge Ministries. Awards: 2nd place National Team Policy Debate at National Christian Forensics and Communication Association, Semi-Finalist at Region X Championship Speech Contest. Worked at Plano Sports as Soccer Referee, and at Gentle Creek Golf Course. Proud parents are Dr. Tom and Julie Marshall.

JOJU OLOJEDE: McKinney North High School. College: Baylor U. or Texas Tech U. To study Psychology in order to become a Psychiatrist or a Dermatologist. Interact Club Officer, North Star Drill Team Senior Lieutenant, President of Political Science Club, Vice-President of African Student Club. Volunteered for Salvation Army, at a Nursing Home and for Operation Christmas Guild. Quote: “Joju has a strong moral character, who leads her peers by example.” Per Drill Team Sponsor. CHANDLER TRUONG: McKinney North High School. College: University of Texas Austin to study Nursing. National Honor Society, Interact Club, Student Council, Art Club, Health Occupations Association, American Sign Language Club, Blue Blazers, Political Science Club, National Art Society. Volunteered for Mactown Miracles, Young Actors Guild, Partners PE, Jolly Jive, and Halos T-Ball. Proud parents are Karen Nguyen and Vinh Truong.
